Glass Mascots by René Lalique
Glass Mascots by René Lalique
In the 1920s, many luxury cars featured mascots on their radiator caps. While most mascots were metal, the French glass designer René Lalique (1860−1945) used his advanced techniques to create glass versions. These mascots are not only fine works of art but were also designed to be illuminated from within by a miniature light bulb in the base; the color could be changed by inserting a tinted translucent disk.
A permanent display at the museum showcases a complete set of all 29 types of glass mascots mass-produced by Lalique.
